Automatic belt tensioner for the serpentine belt of various Mercedes models with M112 and M113 engines. The belt tensioner ensures that the serpentine belt is automatically kept at the correct tension while the engine is running.

A worn or defective belt tensioner can cause unusual noises, vibrations, and an uneven belt run. When the serpentine belt is insufficiently driven, this can lead to, among other things, reduced engine cooling, insufficient alternator charging capacity and reduced power steering performance.
