Ignition distributor cap modified – NOS – M119 V8 engine – Mercedes

NOS – New Old Stock. Original, new, and unused distributor cap from old stock, specially modified.

This original Mercedes distributor cap for the M119 V8 gasoline engine is equipped with two important modifications:

• Enlarged ventilation slots on the underside for better ventilation of the distributor cap.
• Special protective coating on the inside, which is baked in an oven for a durable finish.

These modifications are intended to reduce susceptibility to moisture and internal high-voltage flashover.

With the Mercedes M119 V8 engine, ignition problems caused by moisture and contamination in the distributor caps are a known point of concern. This can lead to irregular engine running, starting problems, ignition failures, and engine misfiring.

The distributor cap ensures the distribution of high voltage to the spark plugs via the spark plug cables.

Additional information

1. This distributor cap has been specially modified. to improve ventilation and provide extra protection to the interior against moisture-related ignition problems.
2. The special coating was applied to the inside and subsequently baked in an oven.
3. When replacing, also check the rotor, spark plug cables and other ignition components on wear, corrosion and damage.
4. Check the existing distributor cap for hairline cracks, moisture, burnt contact material, and signs of high-voltage flashover.
5. Also check the seals and ventilation of the distributor housing. Moisture and contamination can cause ignition problems to recur.
6. This concerns old, unused stock. Any minor signs of storage do not affect suitability, provided the part is undamaged.
7. If there is excessive oil buildup on the inside of the distributor cap, the rotor shaft seal must be replaced. A leaking oil seal can cause engine oil to enter the distributor housing and trigger ignition failures. 8. Ensure that all connections are clean and dry and that the spark plug cables are mounted on the correct connections.
9. After assembly, check that the engine runs smoothly and that there are no ignition malfunctions.
10. The modifications are intended to improve reliability, but cannot prevent all moisture-related ignition problems.
