Description
Valve stem seal Elring – Mercedes R107 C107 W108 W109 W111 W116 W126 C126 – M116 M117 engine
Elring quality version – recommended by Stolk Balkbrug due to its very high quality, precise fit, and durable seal.
This Elring valve stem seal, also known as valve stem seal, valve seal or valve stem seal, ensures a good seal between the valve stem and the valve guide. The rubber limits the amount of engine oil that enters the combustion chamber via the valve guide.
Worn or hardened valve stem seals can lead to increased oil consumption, blue smoke from the exhaust, fouled spark plugs and an irregular engine run. Old seals can lose their elasticity, especially after prolonged inactivity.
This seal is suitable for various classic Mercedes models with the M116 and M117 V8 engines. Depending on the engine version, the seal is applied on the intake side or on both the intake and exhaust sides.
Sold individually. Check the required quantity and any restrictions based on the engine number.

Important engine number restrictions
For certain versions of the M116 and M117 engines, the application depends on the exact engine number.
M117 – up to and including:
- M117.962 – engine number 003139, with the exception of 001973 through 002309.
- M117.963 – engine number 039773, with the exception of 023646 through 028415.
M116 – up to and including:
- M116.962 – engine number 023705, with the exception of 015194 through 018053.
- M116.963 – engine number 042895, with the exception of 028838 through 033749.
NB: The mentioned exceptions fall outside the indicated continuous engine number range. Therefore, always check the full engine number before ordering. Different valve stem seals may have been used in later engine versions.

Installation advice for valve stem seals
- Always use a suitable mounting sleeve. Before installing the valve stem seal, slide a suitable protective sleeve over the valve stem. This prevents the sharp edges of the grooves for the valve stem clips from damaging the sealing lip.
- Use a small amount of clean motor oil. Before installation, apply a thin layer of clean engine oil to the mounting sleeve and the sealing lip of the valve stem seal. This allows the seal to slide more easily over the valve stem and reduces the risk of damage.
- Check the valve stem and valve guide. Check for wear, damage, and excessive play before installation. New valve stem seals cannot remedy excessive wear of the valve guides.
- Mount the seal straight. Use suitable installation tools and press the valve stem seal gently and evenly into place. Avoid misalignment and damage to the metal or rubber parts.
- Remove the mounting sleeve. After installation, check that the valve stem seal is correctly and fully seated.
- Preferably replace all relevant seals simultaneously. In older engines, the rubber seals are often aged to a similar degree. Check whether the same seal is used on the intake and exhaust sides.
- Follow the Mercedes workshop regulations. The prescribed procedure, the correct tools, and the manufacturer's specifications are always the guiding principles.
Special tools required: Mounting sleeve for 9 mm valve stem seals. This protects the sealing lip during installation over the valve stem.

Additional information
- For older M116 and M117 engines, this seal is typically attached to the according to the specified applications. intake side used.
- In certain later versions, application to both the intake and exhaust side given up.
- Always check the exact engine version, the engine number, and the required quantity.
- Blue exhaust smoke and oil consumption can also have other causes, including worn valve guides, piston rings, or problems with the crankcase ventilation.
- A new valve stem seal must never be slid over the grooves of the valve stem dry or by force.
Always check before purchase and installation whether the part is suitable and equivalent based on photos, description, and specifications; installed or used parts cannot be returned.
