Injector sleeve rubber M100 M102 M110 M116 M117 – Mercedes R107 C107 W116 W123 W124 W126 C126 W201 W460
This injector sleeve rubber, also known as injector sleeve sealing rubber, injector rubber or rubber guide for the injection valve, is applied to various classic Mercedes petrol engines with K-Jetronic, KA-Jetronic and KE-Jetronic.
The rubber seals the fuel injector in the funnel-shaped injector housing. A good seal prevents uncontrolled air from entering the intake system past the injector.
Due to age and heat, the rubbers can harden, shrink, or crack. This results false air, causing the fuel-air mixture to be disrupted. This can lead to poor starting, irregular idling, hesitation while driving, and problems tuning the engine.
False air can cause serious engine damage.
A leaking injector sleeve seal is not only a problem for engine performance. If the leakage persists for an extended period, serious engine damage can eventually occur.
In K-Jetronic and KA-Jetronic, the fuel quantity is mechanically regulated based on the measured intake air. If extra air enters through a leaking injector sleeve seal, this air is not correctly incorporated into the fuel metering.
As a result, the mixture, especially in the cylinder in question, can, to become too poor. Possible consequences are:
- Irregular engine running: Poor idling, shaking, hesitation, and an engine that is difficult to tune.
- Increased thermal load: Under certain circumstances, an overly lean mixture can lead to higher temperatures of the combustion gases and exhaust valves.
- Damaged exhaust valves: Prolonged overheating can damage exhaust valves and valve seats, resulting in loss of compression.
- Damage to pistons: Pistons and piston rings can be damaged in the event of severe mixture deviations, high engine load, or detonation.
- Uneven loading of cylinders: A leak can vary per injector. As a result, one cylinder may have an abnormal mixture, while the engine as a whole still appears to function reasonably well.
Adjusting the engine to run rich is not a solution for false air. This does not fix the leak, and other cylinders may actually receive an overly rich mixture.
We therefore advise to to replace old, hardened, or damaged injector sleeve rubbers preventively. In the event of irregular engine operation, always check for false air first before readjusting the injection system.
This part is sold individually.
